Summary
Acetate is fully on-device. It does not have an account system, does not upload your photos anywhere, does not collect analytics or telemetry, and does not embed third-party tracking SDKs. The entire photo-editing pipeline — capture, edit, AI tools, save — runs locally on your iPhone. Everything below explains that in detail.
Who we are
Acetate is published by BMB Enterprises Ltd (Company No. 11309655), a company registered in England & Wales.

What the app does on your device
Acetate is a camera and photo-editing app. It works with images you capture or select on your phone. To do so it asks for the following iOS permissions, and uses them only as described:
- Camera — to capture photos. Image data goes to the Apple Photos library you control.
- Photo Library (read) — to load photos for editing. Reads happen entirely on-device.
- Photo Library (write) — to save edited photos and captured RAW images back to your library.
- Location (When In Use, optional) — if you grant it, Acetate embeds GPS coordinates into the EXIF metadata of photos you take, the same way Apple's stock Camera app does. The location is never transmitted off-device. The permission is requested at the moment you take your first photo, not at app launch.
- Motion sensor — used purely to drive the level indicator and the haptic level-lock confirmation while shooting. Sensor data never leaves the device.
We declare every Apple "Required Reason API" we call in the
PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest bundled with the app, so
reviewers and curious users can audit exactly which system APIs are
used and why.
What we do NOT do
- No account. You can't create an account with Acetate. There's no login, no sign-up, no password.
- No cloud. Your photos, your edits, your saved LUTs live on your phone. We have no servers that store user content.
- No analytics SDKs. Acetate contains no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or marketing SDKs. We don't use Firebase / Mixpanel / Amplitude / Segment / anything similar.
- No tracking. We do not access the IDFA, we do not ship Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and we do not share any identifier about you with third parties for advertising.
- No cloud AI. The Smart Tools features (scene detection, auto-straighten, object removal) run entirely on-device via Apple's Vision framework and on-device Core ML. Your photos are never sent to OpenAI, Google, AWS, or any third-party AI provider.
The one thing Apple may still collect
If you have Share iPhone Analytics enabled in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple itself may collect aggregate, anonymised crash logs and usage statistics from any app on your device — including Acetate. This is Apple's data collection under Apple's privacy policy, not ours. We see only the anonymised crash reports Apple makes available in App Store Connect — never anything that could identify you.
You can opt out of this collection any time at Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share iPhone Analytics.
